How do I sign up to participate? To sign up for Tangerine, participants complete a simple online registration form and then weigh in person at FitMe Wellness, centrally located in Rockford, Illinois. What will I be expected to do to lose weight?Tangerine provides online tools and resources that help support your weight loss efforts, including weight tracking, nutrition and calorie information, and other healthy resources. Tangerine also supports your efforts by providing daily e-mails with healthy tips. Tangerine does not prescribe a specific diet or fitness plan, but provides tools and incentives to encourage you to find what works best for you. As always, it is recommended that you consult your health care provider before starting a new diet or fitness regimen. What are the individual rewards? All participants are eligible for individual rewards. Reward rules differ depending on your body mass index (BMI). BMI is based on height and weight.
High BMI What are the team rewards?Participants may choose to join a 3 to 6 person team. The participants on the team with the highest % of weight loss will split $1,500, the second place team members split $750, and third place team members split $250. As more participants sign-up, the amount of team rewards will increase as well. Team rewards will be paid out in cash. Participants must weigh in at FitMe at the beginning and end measurement periods to be eligible for all rewards. How and when are rewards distributed?Reward points are distributed after the close of each quarter. Participants will receive an email from Tangerine once reward points have been distributed. Participants may use their points balances toward valuable discounts from participating local merchants. Participants must weigh in at FitMe at the beginning and end measurement periods to be eligible for all rewards. What kinds of discounts will I get with my points? You will be able to apply your points toward discounts at participating local merchants. Check back often to see what types of discounts you will receive. Can I choose which team I want to join?Yes! Participants are invited to create their own 3 to 6 person team. You can form a team at the end of the sign-up process. If you’re not yet ready to create your team, you can come back to the team creation page at a future date after you have signed up. Is it fair for teams to be different sizes?Since the team rankings are determined by the percentage of total team weight improvement, teams of differing sizes may still compete against one another. May I participate on a team if I am of a healthy or low weight?Yes, Tangerine is open to participants of any weight. Within the competition, the best way to help your team is to achieve or maintain your weight goal. Healthy weight individuals can contribute to the team?s effort by losing weight (but will adversely affect team performance if they gain weight). Positive weight change by underweight individuals is included as a weight loss in the team's overall efforts. What happens to my team if I can’t weigh in at the ending measurement period? If you do not weigh in at the ending measurement period, your team is negatively affected, as Tangerine assumes you made no weight improvement contribution to your team. How will I know how my team is doing?Tangerine provides free online tools to each participant. After you sign up, you will receive information on how to access the Tangerine web tools. Log in as often as you like to find out how your team is doing. The Tangerine tools also allow you to keep a voluntary weight log, track personal progress, and keep an interactive calorie log of your foods and activities. Where am I able to access the Tangerine Web site? You can access the site from any computer with Internet access. What if I don’t have a computer or internet access? Are using the tools required for participation? No, the tools are entirely optional. For participants who wish to lose weight on their own without using the online tools, Tangerine will still offer rewards for weight loss. However, participants need to be measured at the beginning and ending measurement periods to participate. How is my healthy weight determined?Tangerine uses your height and weight to determine your body mass index (BMI). Tangerine uses the standards defined by the Centers for Disease Control to determine weight categories. You are considered overweight if your BMI is greater than 24.9, underweight if less than 18.5, and of a healthy weight if between 18.5 and 24.9. Tangerine uses these BMI values to determine a healthy weight for you. What is body mass index (BMI)?The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement tool that compares your height to your weight and gives you an indication of whether you are overweight, underweight or at a healthy weight for your height. BMI is a good indicator for the average person from age 25 to 65, and is a guideline. It does not take into account muscle mass or your overall body type as some people weigh more because of muscle, not fat. Can I participate in Tangerine if I don't live in the Rockford area? You can live outside of Rockford and still participate if you can physically get to FitMe to be weighed-in within the scheduled sign-up windows. If you live too far away to show up at FitMe, then sign a petition to ask Tangerine to come to your town. Hopefully we'll be there soon!
